The”Lose for Hughes” effort will finally come to an end this Friday when the 2019 NHL Draft begins at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. The consensus is that C Jack Hughes is going to be chosen first from the New Jersey Devils Jersey Devils. Additionally, it is likely the Kaapo Kakko, the Finnish sensation, goes No. 2 total. After that, it’s anyone’s guess. Here is ours.
New Jersey Devils: Jack Hughes C
Hughes is the most talented player available. He spent the previous two seasons with the U.S. National Development Team and is the complete package. He can skate, score, pass, and more. Despite his frame (5-10, 170), Hughes could be another Patrick Kane.
Lightning favorite for 2020 Stanley Cup New York Rangers: Kaapo Kakko RW
Kakko is your great from Finland. He also set a record for goals by a player 18 or younger in Liga with 22. In 10 games in the IIHF World Championships, Kakko (6-2, 194) scored six goals. While he is just 18, Kakko ought to be prepared to make the jump into the NHL this season.
Chicago Blackhawks: Alex Turcotte C
It’s a return trip home for Turcotte who grew up in the Chicago suburbs. In 5-11 and 185 pounds, Turcotte had 62 points (27 G, 35 A) for the U.S. National Development Team last year despite missing 22 games.
Colorado Avalanche: Dylan Cozens C
A tremendous blend of size and rate, Cozens totaled 34 goals and 84 points in 68 games with Lethbridge of the WHL last season. A true scorer, Cozens would be the Avs second-line center as ancient as 2019-20.
Los Angeles Kings: Bowen Byram D
With a load of forward prospects in the machine , the Kings will opt for the best defenseman in the draft — Byram. At a solid 6-0 and 195 lbs, Byram led the WHL in postseason scoring with 26 points (8 G, 18 A). A defenseman that can score will not last long within this draft.
